Hi there, I’m new to all of this. Because we are not going to the grocery store, I have to use the milk I have available which is either powdered whole milk (KLIM or Nido) or 2% boxed milk or almond milk. I was wondering if the powdered whole milk will work? I also have some heavy cream. Any advice on which one to use first or mix would be great. Thank you!
Yes, the powder milk would work if there are no preservatives inside.
The problem here is that is very posible to thicken the yogurt mix (because is dry milk) but reduce the number of bacteria ( due to preservatives) consequently the texture will be creamier than usual and not that acidic(like some commercial yoghurts made intentionally like this to increase the shelf life)
We wrote a lot about almond ‘‘milk’’ in this forum, please refer to the Vegan milk section in the forum here: Alternative milk
The cream could deliver something very similar to sour cream.
