Is it possible to combine different starters when starting a new batch with a gallon of whole milk? I have four different starter packets obviously with different bacteria cultures and would love to maximize the probiotic nature of my yogurt batch by combining them all.

From scientific point of view, the starters are ‘‘maximised’’ at the point of production as all calculations are made long before that point. You can take one strain blend or multistrain one. Each blend is based on decades of researches and this guarantees their quality.
When mixing different blends they become imbalanced, consequently, the results might be worst, not better, however, you always can try mixing when making it at home, it is up to you.
